Brief Description of Work:
Jills ceramics are inspired by travel and nature and sometimes by ancient buildings returning to nature.  Making processes include coiling, slabbing, sculpting, throwing and altering.  Fired to 1270ºc in gas reduction.  Some raku also made.  Work ranges from pottery for Japanese cuisine to large sculptural commissions.

At the invitation of the faculty of the Division of Ceramic Art, Satoru Hoshino, will come to Alfred this summer as an international artist-in-residence. A highly respected ceramic artist with a history of prestigious international exhibitions, Satoru plans to make ceramic sculpture during his residency that will be exhibited at the Schein-Joseph International Museum of Ceramic Art in the fall, 2006.
The combination of a residency and exhibition is a collaborative first for the Museum and the Division of Ceramic Art - Satoru Hoshino will be the first ceramic artist to create ceramic sculpture, shaped and fired in the ceramic studios of the School of Art and Design, specifically for an exhibition in the Museum.

Lynn Whelan ‘Inveramics’
Ceramic Artist (Inverloch, VIC)
Lynn Whelan is a ceramic artist with a flair for bold colours and striking designs. As her clientele expands she is gaining recognition for her unique patterns and colour co-ordination. Each piece is personally slip-cast, handpainted then fired to suit a shape or individual decor needs of customers.
Former training as an architectural draftswoman led her to explore detailed and intricate patterns, featuring many timeless black and white designs as well as striking colours to offset meticulously planned designs.
Lynn has been a ceramic teacher for eight years and has exhibited in galleries, Chapel Off Chapel and had a feature article in the Herald Sun newspaper. Commissions include commemorative pieces for the Bali Geckos Footblall Club for the 1st anniversary of the Bali bombings, awards for Shire Council projects and hand-painted native flowers on tiles for Council Australia Day Award recipients.

Suvira McDonald
Ceramic Artist (Byron Bay, NSW)
Suvira McDonald is an award-winning ceramic artist in whose hands clay takes myriad forms, from garden sculptures to ceramic vases, mugs and other dinnerware. His career as an artist spans 30 years and, as a visual artist, he commenced working in ceramics 12 years ago. In that time he has completed his Masters Degree and exhibited significant works in the area of architectural ceramics, funerary art, corporate art, contemporary vessels. He works in the stoneware tradition and is a sometime wood fire artist. In the sculptural arena Suvira’s work is often in mixed media using combinations of ceramics, wood, glass, metals, concrete often using recycled materials.
